Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Can I buy health insurance just for my child without covering myself?

A: Yes. APRIL and some other international insurers allow you to purchase standalone policies just for children, provided certain conditions are met.

A: Yes, if the child is added within 28 days of birth and the parent was covered for at least 366 days, no medical underwriting is required. Otherwise, full medical underwriting applies.

A: Yes, if the plan includes regional or worldwide coverage. Emergency care, evacuation, and even overseas hospitalisation can be included.

A: These may be excluded or require additional underwriting. In some cases, coverage can be reviewed after 24 months of no symptoms or treatment.

A: These are covered under outpatient and wellness benefits, which are optional add-ons in most international policies.

A: The premium depends on your child’s age, the plan level, and whether you add outpatient, dental or wellness cover. Plans we place for children typically start from around S3,000 a year Because children are generally young and healthy, standalone child plans are often more affordable than parents expect. We match the plan to what your child actually needs rather than over-insuring.

A: Yes. A child-only plan covers your child on its own, with no need for you to be on the same policy — which is exactly the gap that appears when a new employer plan won’t add dependents. We can arrange the cover to start when you need it.

A: Absolutely. Single parents, PR families, and foreigners on a valid pass can all arrange standalone cover for a child, with no requirement for the parent to hold a policy. It’s one of the most common reasons parents come to us, and we handle the plan design and paperwork for you.
